I read a lot lately about the hot topic of raising minimum wage. I mean no disrespect towards the folk who may oppose my way thinking on this subject, but I believe that if a person wants more, then they should be willing to put in the work necessary in order to attain their goals! When I graduated high school, I thought that I had the world in my hands when I started working with my dad at UTA as a facilities, and maintenance worker. After a few months, I was laid off, due to the effects of hurricane Katrina, and the rise of fuel prices. UTA went $2,000,000 over their fuel budget that year, so I was one of the few new guys that were let go due to cost reduction. After that I worked as an overnight freight handler at Shopko for six months. I hated it! I made $8 an hour at the age of 19. I knew damn well that I needed to shoot higher, if I ever wanted to accomplish the goals that I had set for myself in my own mind. I have, and now at the age of 28, I now own my own truck and home because of my own effort! Thats why I do not support raising minimum wage.. You cant have a million dollar dream with a low responsibility work effort!!!! Nothings for free!
