I read with much delight,@NSTonlines Chok Suat Lings piece today on how the arts and humanities are just as important in advancing our country as science and technology, and thought Id share it with all of you. Some of you might know that I’m very much involved in the arts industry and the media business. As of 3 years ago, I also set up a boutique academy which I hope will contribute to the eco system of the arts by nurturing the next generations of not only performers, but writers, directors, producers for the arts industry, as well as creators and thinkers for the country. We have about 560 students to-date between the ages of 3 and 55 who attend classes and workshops with us, and this is my personal passion/pet project! You can see why I’m so glad the matter of humanities studies is being discussed, in Suat Lings writing. There’s so much emphasis on academics in schools and colleges today that we run the risk of producing robots who can’t get a decent job when they graduate with first class honours and all the papers they can carry, because we’re forgetting that employers are looking for candidates with character, who speak with confidence and passion, who think out of the box, who are well groomed and have excellent social graces an d will represent a brand or a company well. nst.my/opinion/columnist/softer-fields-not-irrelevant-1.583820
