I realised this morning that in this special time of giving to others that I have been given the greatest Christmas present of all. Yes she does have four paws and fur but she is not a puppy and was not given as a present. Her name is Sable and she is a grr surrender and has come to me in foster care from a puppy farm which in past years she would have been used as the breeding machine for Christmas puppies. To be given the opportunity to welcome this foster girl into my home and knowing that through my work with rescue I have been given the opportunity to learn how to change shut down and broken dogs like Sable is a gift and it is worth more than gold. Sable watches me all the time from a distance and the Orange tree seems her safe haven, she will venture out when I am not around and see what the other Goldies are doing. She will follow the pack as once my darling Jenni did and seeing that no harm comes to them, ever so slowly she will learn to trust me as the leader of the pack. My first joy was seeing her upstairs this morning which tells me she followed the pack and she slept inside a home for the very first time. There will be countless firsts for Sable and I as we go out our journey together, she is in great company with the other gentle goldies and here she can start her second chance at life.
