I realized that some of you may not be able to see posts when I share them, so here is the update for Ava today: Ava Update: Ava had a few hiccups overnight and today, but overall had a positive report and our visit was one of our best so far. She has tolerated the last 24 hours of feeding and the blood culture has still come back negative for traces of infection, they will monitor it for a total of 5 days, so far it’s all good. She is still on caffeine to help support lung development and maintenance of blood pressure. Ava did have a few A’s and B’s but did not require any major procedure, the episodes weren’t “grouping” like they did on Thursday which prompted the intubation of the ventilator. In fact, they were planning to extubate the vent tube tomorrow, but Ava was pitching a real fit with the tube in her throat so the doctors decided to perform the extubation today and go to noninvasive positive pressure ventilation. She is still on the ventilation machine, but she is back to nasal prongs rather than a tube in her throat. She has tolerated this treatment well, as Dr. Leigh said “she is already getting her way at six days old, y’all better watch out”. We’ll take that…when Ava does get to come home, she will be a bit spoiled…and she’ll have earned it. Due to all of the activity, Elly and I were able to see and “do” a lot with Ava today. Elly took her temperature and I got to change my first diaper. It was a good visit overall, Ava looked a lot more comfortable and this was the most interaction we’ve had so far, I think God knew we needed it today.
