I really disagree with the original posts commentary, in which it was said to be funny. I strongly disagree. On so many levels this is just pure awesome. Like we literally have about as close to getting an animal to be a brain in a vat in the sense of that thought experiment. Ive also never understood the other intuition that it should matter whats really there. Nonsense. You have no choice but to be an empiricist. And the best empiricist is the idealist Berkeley, who literally reduced everything down to a single, common sense. Regardless. How well could that possibly work if theyre not actually in a free range since that would then, by definition, have to allow them to roam freely. They couldnt interact with the world. So itd be like the people trapped in baby John malkovich in being john malkovich. Or invoke a metaphor from horror meets Christmassy stuff, of finding yourself trapped in a snow globe that is being shaken by the world. Being john malkovich is probably one of the most sophisticated play with the philosophy of mind at its core. That was a garden path sentence. If you didnt realize it, now you do. At least behaviorally. Anyway, I dont condone or uncondone anything related to the actual care of chickens, Im merely intending to point out the way this reveals something about core philosophical issues.
