I really enjoyed that talk by Corey Anton (Grand Valley State University), presenting A Brief Sketch of Lee Thayers Contributions to Communication Theory as part of the Communication Outlooks panel - 62nd Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture & 2-Day General Semantics Symposium, sponsored by the Institute of General Semantics at the Princeton Club in New York City, Saturday, October 25, 2014. A few highlights: - Communication occurs when someone takes something into account that interpretation precedes experience. - If your mind finds intelligible what others minds dont, you likely have a broken one - Youre being carried by the interpretation that youre articulating as you take these words into account. - Mind is an ongoing social historical process. - We are not transmitting ideas, what were doing is were co-navigating to the future. - We have a tendency to think of language as referential rather than consequential. - If youre not able to thrive, your job is to figure out what you can do to make that happen. youtu.be/oJC7k2Pcr2c
