I really enjoyed the Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle Challenge today, a real blast. Some of you will understand what Im talking about when I describe how it feels to be 52 years of age and still be able to be one of 7 or 8 guys driving a train some 60 riders or more in length. That final 25km in the 100km ride is when people start to get tired, made all the harder by a stiff southerly headwind too, and while its nothing compared to what Henk Vogels did in Paris Roubiax, its still a buzz at 52 to be one of the engine room guys driving the bunch. You get to that point where the cream is at the front, and nobody else is allowed in. The engine room guys start talking to each other, they start letting each other in and shutting everyone else out. Loads of fond memories of top flight racing as a younger man. Some good young guys pulling turns today too. Respectful, responded well to hand signals, honest riders with good legs. I had a great time and I was fortunate enough to be 3rd rider into the finish chute at Souhtport Parklands.
