I really liked Jonathan Glazers UNDER THE SKIN, in fact I like everything this guy has done so far. Its one of those interesting, nebulous yet simple films that pulls you into its world offering no explanation and probably doesnt need it. Its also probably a very unusual interpretation of the book (though I havent read the book) perhaps someone who has can comment on that? Some people have compared it to Von Trier, Lynch and Kubrick but i think Glazer has a refreshingly original voice of his own. If I had to compare it to anything it might be something like Beyond the Black Rainbow even though that had an entirely different aesthetic approach and I liked this better. What possibly surprised me most is just how good Scarlett Johansson is in it with her quiet reserved performance as alien being (of some sort) She was the perfect choice for this role, always fascinating to watch and not just for her physical beauty. This film will make no money and probably get very little attention outside of the cinefile crowd, maybe you have to be in the right mood for it, I dont know. I would venture a guess people (including art film buffs) will be fairly divided on it. All I can say is, I liked it a lot and Jonathon Glazer rules! This is a guy Id like to meet some day. Also can someone tell me what planet or star system Johanssons character is from?
