I really need to rant a bit on the subject of flat out open format djs.. I pride myself in literally Being able to go in to any room and being able to play it appropriately, but that being said, constantly putting yourself out there for open bookings is such a slap in the face to the people who put in work in their respective genres to gain credibility in hopes of being added on to bills within their genre of choice. There are so many ridiculously amazing house DJs in chicago that are overlooked on a weekly basis who put the time and energy in to shine at what they love most; and are even praised by huge artists when they do get the opportunity to support them, and 9/10 promoters overlook quality for NO reason just to overpay some asshole with a shit attitude towards music and an overly abundant friend network to poorly direct support world renowned artists. You guys better take some good looks in the mirror and be thankful. Every EDM act is all of a sudden starting house music side projects but you dont see any true-to-themselves house artists starting up edm side projects for the purpose of monetary capitalization. You should be thankful for that.. Find your sound, find your niche, and become an ARTIST in all senses of the word, and no longer seek to follow what is going to grow your base off the coat tails of others. Become your own person, and forge your own style, and more importantly, get out and see shows even if they are not within your personal taste category. You will be so surprised with yourself in the studio with your own thought process(es) after a night out at an indie show or a dubstep show to find yourself adopting strange new sound patterns you could have never imagined. Experimentation. That is the key. Forge your own paths and brand a loyalty to something in your heart so that you will find yourselves being able to fully reach a heightened state of self gratification with your DJ sets instead of simply doing it for the pay check and hustling yourself nonsensically to phone in music for a crowd that pays money to see their favorite djs only to get slapped in the face by half assed support artists who truly dont care about the artist they are supporting. Ill leave you with a quote I live by from Diynamic artist, STIMMING.. I am a firm believer in quality. Everything quality over time will always find its way. Good Night.
