I really need your feedback here. PLEASE COMMENT with your thoughts. There are a few events Im thinking about organizing. Well, two events (that I can talk about at this time) and one thats more of a campaign: 1) Rock N Roll Charity Poker: Heres how it would work. This would be a free monthly event where we invite a local band, solo artists, or industry rep to be our guest and play tournament style poker against their friends and fans (open to the public). The artist/rep will pick a charity that half the prize pool will go to. So, for example, (none of these people have confirmed or even know about the event. This is just hypothetical.) Lets say its someone like Roz, or Scarpetti, or Rob Duguay, or Mike D (I know hes an avid, kick ass player). Theyd pick a charity and youd all come out and try to take their money. If you like an artist or want to meet a rep what better way than a fun, casual setting? If you dont like them then come take their money for a good cause. Much like The Midday Social wed encourage other artists to come out to support the night and would only play music over the house system at the event by artists in attendance. There would be a full cash bar and food. This could be a great way for folks in the music community to come together, have some fun and drinks, and raise money for a charity of their choosing. 2) This one is more of a campaign to help bands get more exposure with folks they may not normally otherwise reach. The idea is that anyone who comes out to a show bring a friend, co-worker, brother, sister, etc. that has never been to a show, or at least doesnt come out all that often. Simply find me at the door with something like, This is Bob, he works with me at Murica Corp. Ive been talking to him for a while about how truly amazing our homegrown talent is so I dragged him out tonight. You and your guest will get into the show for free and I will buy you two your first drink. Id run this campaign for a month or two and come up with a clever name. A friend already dubbed it bring a friend to work day. 3) Monthly DIY style free shows: I came up in the mid 90s in the punk/hardcore/metal scene. Sort of the tail end of the 5 dollar all ages show being a regular occurrence. Not too long ago Midday hosted Lewis from PALS birthday bash in the back room of Platforms with NEUTRINOS and bunch of other great bands. We brought the PA from our band room and the bands played on the floor. There was no cover. It was a BLAST and it brought me back. What better way to give back to those who come out night after night supporting local artists than a monthly free show? Another night were we all get together, have some drinks, and listen to some of New Englands finest. #celebratelocalmusic
