I recall eating ketchup sandwiches, drinking sugar water & in some cases crying until we fell asleep from hunger. Had it not been for the food bank a lot of those nights I dont know how my family & I would have made it through. I recall how my mom would make sure my sister and I ate even if she had nothing to eat. That saddened me for years. I also recall as early as the tender age of 12 is when I began insisting to my mom that her & my sister eat and I insist on going to bed hungry instead. This was my first introduction to [Man Hood].
