I receive an incoming call on my US cell - its a number I dont recognize - +941-922-9720, which is either a Sri Lankan number or a condominium in Florida number that somehow didnt include a 1 first. Its a robo-call from Credit Card Services saying they are offering me an opportunity to lower my rate - press one to continue. Rep: (Male with accent I cant place) This is credit card services and we are offering you the opportunity to lower your rate. Me: Which credit card do you work for? Rep: MasterCard and Visa Me: What bank? Rep: Chase, Citibank, Bank of America... Me: Whats your relationship to these banks who arent affiliated with each other? Rep: We are credit card services, we are specially authorized to negotiate lower rates with these banks. Me: Who owns Credit Card Services? Rep: Are you interested in this offer? Me: But, who owns Credit Card Services? Rep: The company is Credit Card Services. Me: So, when you receive your paycheck, who does it say it is from? Rep: Credit Card Services. Me: So what are you offering me? Rep: We can negotiate a lower rate for you for customers like you who pay your bill regularly (umm, then why would I care about the rate). Me: How do you know what cards I have? Rep: Do you want this offer or not? Me: What information do you require from me? Rep: Do you have a card with a balance of $3500 or more? Me: Dont you know? You called me with this offer. Rep: (hangs up) Tried calling number back and received an invalid number message. While this was slightly fun to see how long it would go on, I was hoping hed divulge some incriminating information that could be passed along to authorities. Whats particularly concerning is how many people every day are suckered into providing sensitive financial information to scammers like this?
