I received a copy of a letter that touched me considerably.... Hello John, thank you very much for sending me the film! To say that Im impressed is to say nothing. I watched the film together with my mother. Announcements sent chills down my spine and my mother said she had sense of fear similar to when she listened to the radio announcements during Stalin times. That lady spelled and visualized them brilliantly. Makeup, color scheme and graphics are 100% hit the target. You wont believe, but when it came to Confessions, general atmosphere, acting skills and personality of Sinitsyn made us both crying. We immediately remembered one particular late summer visit to my mothers parents, my grand parents in Russia. Two days before our leave home, my grandfather saw something on TV about Stalin times which was intentionally falsely presented as positive. He was very upset and angry, because he knew what it means to spend 10 years in concentration camp in Siberia on false accusations. He was talking about those times exactly like Sinitsyn did, with pain, coughing and short of breath because of heart issues. That night he had heart attack and was moved to hospital. We couldnt stay there longer because in two days I had to start school year. Next day after we arrived home, my grandfather died. Sinitsyn is a Godsend for this role. Im sure his message will break through the armor of ignorance of any fat-packed brain. From my mothers point of view, this is a great contribution in prevention of those times repetition, no matter what country in, and she is thankful to you and Sinitsyn for voicing the truth, the essence of the horror, in memory of her father and millions of victims of the regime.
