I received an email from Richard Horton- The editor of The Lancet - TopicsExpress

I received an email from Richard Horton- The editor of The Lancet about the much debated article. He was surprised. Here is my response. To give voice to a one-sided, editorial opinion, which is clearly biased and politically motivated, and without due peer review and without the opposing view, is nothing short of giving antisemitism a platform. I have not read any outcries from the authors of the letter against the mass killings in Iran, Syria, Iraq, etc. You may not agree, but non of this has or should have any room in a major scientific journal- for or against. Should we start publishing our political biases in oped format in Science, New England Journal of Medicine, or Nature? If your answer is yes then I would urge you to place an office in the Southern border of Israel where The Lancet can publish from a less biased point of view. Science should stay clear from politics. As you may be aware, a couple of weeks ago, a Belgian doctor refused to treat an injured Jew simply on the bias of religion. For more than twenty years, I have worked in emergency rooms where patients spat on me incorrectly thinking I am Arab while I sutured their wounds. I have performed lifesaving measures on self proclaimed KKK members who clearly hate me. Our oath demands to sanctify life- not a Muslim life or a Jewish Life, but all life. Your publication of such opinions gives ammunition to shortsighted doctors to misbehave and bring their toxic religious beliefs into the sacred operating room. When war breaks out, we become divided in politics, but should remain united in medicine and science. Some call it a religious war, but not a scientific war! I beg you to keep your respected Journal free of contamination with religious or political views. They have plenty of voice elsewhere. Respectfully. Los Angeles Heart Specialists
