I recently became email pen-pals with a homeless guy (I won’t get into how this happened, so don’t ask). This guy is kind of amazing. We’ve chatted over the weeks and months about subjects ranging from the vagaries of life and death, to which Donald Duck cartoon is the best. Along the way, we got into literature and fiction (he’s got some smoking writing chops of his own). One thing led to another and I sent him a copy of my book Relative Karma (which he is reading at the library he frequents to check his email). What follows is what may be the best review of my book yet. It’s a little wordy, but it was too delightful to trim: “Hey dude! Im on page 205 and almost done. I have so much to comment on but that would be a little book in itself. First I truly appreciate that you personally gave me a piece of your soul to examine. Freakin guts man. Books are just that. Giving strangers a piece of us for some change. But you gave me yours without cost, so thanks. Secondly; no matter what the genre of your book (with all the mystery, ploys of craft, bending split personalities with supernatural, etc.) I felt myself for some reason wanting to cry. So much emotion and raw grated heart on the page like shredded cheese on a taco! LOL! Cant believe I just said that about Karma! haha. Its not a taco! Its a macho grande nacho with EVERYTHING on it, open faced to be cruelly examined before consumed! Those jalapenos (my most favorite part) want me to cry! How many horrible books out there with only too-thick nuclear cheese on unsalted thin chips whose only purpose in life is to get soggy in 15 seconds! Where are the black olives! Where are the darn green onions and sour cream! Hey, where is the seasoned taco meat and fatty refried beans! Where are the tomatoes and salt and pepper! And give me jalapenos! Where is this plate of nachos?! Its in Karma! The meal is almost over. I hope the chips on the bottom arent soggy yet!”
