I recently needed to renew my Commercial B or CDL drivers license, so I went to the DMV in Clermont (Lake County) last summer. Since I had it before, they told me I just needed to get a physical and come back, and Id get it. Well, I did that. Except, when I went back, they added that I had to pass the written tests and the driving test again. I did these tests years ago in TN when I got it the first time, so I couldnt figure why I needed to do them again. Anyway, I took the written test on the spot just to see if I could pass it, and I failed. Taking all the tests would require me to study the book again and pass the written test which included questions like How many feet do children need to walk away from the bus when exiting?...I mean really? It would also mean that Id have to schedule an appointment in Orlando and pass the pre trip inspection and another road test. Aint nobody got time for dat! Enter my girlfriend, Kasey. She suggested I go to the tax collector in Manatee County over Christmas break while I was staying with her and ask them. Well, two filled-out forms, an eye test, and $88 later, I walked out with my CDL! Lake county can kiss my Astabula. (See what I did there?)
