I recently received this letter from Paul Ratchford, General Manager of the Teneya Lodge in Yosemite. His letter had important information for all lovers of Yosemite National Park. Please take a minute to read it... I wanted to thank all of our past guests in deep appreciation for the many messages of concern I received for Tenaya Lodge and our staff during the Rim Fire near and in Yosemite National Park. I have worked in the Yosemite Region for nearly 20 years, and in that time, I have never seen or experienced a forest fire of this magnitude and speed. Thankfully, Tenaya Lodge was not impacted directly by the fire, as the active fire line stayed more than 30 miles from the resort. The Lodge never saw smoke or ash from the fire with the exception of a few hours this Labor Day weekend. The Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite National Park are vast, and thankfully the Rim Fire touched only a small fraction of these forested lands. That said, the fire has and is having a significant impact on the communities and Gateway towns surrounding Yosemite and the fire region. I’d like to ask that if you had been considering a trip to Yosemite this fall, please do come and visit. Yosemite Valley and the majority of the region are as pristine as ever. The many outstanding area shops, restaurants and lodges and their staff could use your support. If you had not been planning a trip or were planning to visit a different destination, I encourage you to rethink your plans and itineraries. Workers are already focused on restoring access to the park on the western section of Highway 120. Immediate access is available to Yosemite via Highway 140 and Highway 41, which were not impacted in any way by the fire. Highway 120 over Tioga Road should also reopen shortly. If you’d like to read about some great fall activities and sights to see in fall, as well as some of the special packages Tenaya Lodge has available, check out our Timberlines Newsletter. Guests have also been asking if there is a way to personally help aide in the recovery. The Yosemite Conservancy, for instance, is fundraising to help restore trails and lost habitat in the tens of thousands of acres in the park that have been burned.
