I recently visited La Cave du Cochon with James Yu for another taste (third time in 2 weeks) of Seouls newest charcuterie joint, recently opened by friend and chef/owner of French bistro LEspoir du Hibou, Kihak Lim. For your reference, a nicely written review of the food we ate during our initial visit to La Cave was posted in Restaurant Buzz Seoul on October 17 by the aforementioned Monsieur Yu. I noticed the Burger dAgneau (lamb burger) on the menu last time, but wanted to sample the charcuterie and jamon on offer first. Although there are other porcine delights on the menu here I have yet to try, this visit I went with the burger. Priced at 18,000 won and served with a side of fries, the Burger dAgneau comprises a moist and just lamb-y enough lamb patty topped with hummus, a tomato slice, rosemary, pine nuts and gooey melted muenster cheese, all on a lightly toasted housemade bun. It was truly a delight and now ranks among my favorite burgers in Seoul. I washed it down with a Duvel, Golden Ale from Belgium, one of the 6 Belgian beers on the 7-beer menu (the only non-Belgian brew being La Trappe, Trappist Ale from the Netherlands). La Cave du Cochon is located near Dosan Park at Shinsa-dong 651-9 (2nd floor). The telephone number for reservations is 02-515-6034. Hours are 6pm to 2 am (last order 1am) and valet parking is available.
