I recently watched August: Osage County, a film based on a stage play. I took a chance on it because the cast of Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper and Benedict Cumberbatch, caught my attention. For some reason it was marketed theatrically as yet another family-reunion based comedies featuring a series of one-liners and no plot. The reality is much darker and kind of depressing. Wiki says its a black-comedy but its a straight up drama film with comedy coming from character dynamics. The story is very complex, keeping secrets/reveals until the very end. It covers love, hate, death, suicide, incest, racism, and the list just keeps going. I give it a 9/10.
