I recently watched a film that both transfixed me and transformed me. I have for some years now turned my back on Hollywood made films and I choose not to support the unionized machine that grinds out mind numbing garbage. How many damn Spider Man and Wolverine movies does the public at large actually need to see? Anyway, I am a realist and Hollywood abandon movie goers like me decades ago. They decided that we (the general public) werent interested in movies that actually had a message, but rather, that we need to see mega disaster films on an apocalyptic scale. Couple that with the fact that every major movie would (HAVE to) star either George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise,Angelina Jolie or Sandra Bullock and well, for me, it became a combo of vomit inducing proportions. The movie that actually gave me a little faith in the movie making process again is an Indie film (SURPRISE) from Tribeca films Called The Broken Circle Breakdown. It was filmed in Belgium and stars Belgium actors. The leading man is homely looking and the leading lady is the girl next door type. BUT, this is actually what makes this film work. It immediately presents itself as being BELIEVABLE and REALISTIC. It is definitely not a film for people who think the Fast and the Furious was a work of cinematic art. Be warned though, this film is heavy in an emotional way. It Deals with death, relationships, religion and the human condition. Bluegrass music (yes Bluegrass) sets the tone of the film and without it would render the film so gut wrenching to watch that it would be unbearable. If you dont come away from this film emotionally drained then you have no soul. I love films like this. Films that make you feel! It has been some time since a film has moved me like this film did. One last note, this film is in subtitles but dont let it stop you from watching it. If you pride yourself on being an intellectual than I implore you to unglue yours eyes from the two year marathon of Pawn Stars or Man vs Food and take a gander at this film. Its not for everybody.......but thats the point. You can watch the trailer here youtube/watch?v=3a50DJkCxqw
