I relistened to one of my favorite songs tonight and it made me start thinking about dreamers. That is what I am. I am a dreamer. I dream of a career in which I bring joy to many. I dream of a life filled with happiness. I dream of a world where everyone is truly created equal and they are free to live the life they want to live. I am sitting in my new apartment in Manhattan, and I think back to a time when I was in high school in Bremen Alabama. I dreamed of living in New York City one day. I had never been there. I could only imagine what it would be like. Honestly, it is better than I could imagine. New York City is the Grand Central Station of the world. I love it. But what do you do when your dream comes true? You dream another one. I know so many people who had dreams and didnt chase after them. It breaks my heart. Following your true dream is the hardest thing you will ever do. It will not come easy. Your supporters will try to prepare you by telling you that it is hard, but there is no preparation for that moment when you step off the cliff and pray to God that you have what it takes to fly. But you can. If you find yourself falling, that is when you have to flap your wings harder. I promise you, you will fly. There were many many times in the last year and some odd months that I secretly thought, Am I going to make it through this? I didnt tell many people about it because that is another element of living your dream. You have to believe with all of your heart, not that you will make it but, that there is a solution to this problem and you can find it. Winston Churchill said, If you are going through hell... Keep going. It is true. The last thing that I learned from this year long process of successfully moving to New York City is that to truly succeed at following your dreams, you have to try your very damnedest to not make the same mistake twice. Albert Einstein said, The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over expecting a different result. You have to be flexible. You have to be willing to admit you are wrong. You have to be able to stand up and proudly say I made a mistake. Mistakes are so much more useful than successes in creating the person you will become. The truth... The truth is not a choice, it is a law. Just like gravity, the truth is something that cant be argued when it is your truth. Dont make excuses for something you did. Tell the world why you did what you did, because you thought at the time it was the best thing to do, but you were wrong. Own your truth. Authenticity is the glue that holds your spiritual DNA together. If just one person reads my thoughts tonight and is inspired to follow their dream that they thought was impossible, then my intent was met. I want everyone to think about their dreams and go after them. It doesnt matter if you are 30 and you want to be a movie star, or you are 40 and you want to be a nurse, or you are 60 and you want to learn to play the guitar... Just do it.
