I remember I used to vehemently refute anyone who called me a church girl. Why? Because it was a stereotype to me. To be called a church girl, meant one of two things: 1. Youre an overzealous, out of touch with humanity bible-bashing female OR 2. Youre a girl who preaches Jesus but practices the entire opposite of what Jesus represents. i.e youre in the choir but Saturday night, youre out at the club winding, grinding and shaking like your finances depend on it... And literally this second I realized something. I ran away from the label instead of trying to correct it. I have no idea if this is making sense. Christians run away from the term Christian because of the hypocrites out there instead of being the light thwarting the misrepresenting darkness. A lot of us women have run away from church girl because its a tainted title...instead of giving it the substance and pure reflection it should have. Jesus Christ has not stopped being Jesus Christ because of the false prophets, the blasphemers... Like really, imagine if God one day just decided to change His name because of the folk who abuse it? Stand firm in what you believe in and prove the stereotypes wrong. Oh yes, this was sparked up by Adedolapo Elizabeth Oguntayo IIs new page I Am a Church Girl..which is breaking the stereotypes and restoring light. Its awesome! I Am a Church Girl...I delight in going to the House of the Lord. Is that all I am? Nope. But thats another status for another day :)
