I remember when I first joined Facebook. I have never been a blogger, or even been able to consistently keep a journal, so I avoided Facebook for a good while. After several invitations to join, I finally did. It was fun. My sister lived in another country at the time, and I could post pictures of my kids, and so could she. Friends I hadnt seen in ages did the same. It was neat. Now its an online popularity contest/ self-promotion/ COMPLAIN, GRUMBLE, AND BELITTLE accelerant. We say we want the world to be a better place. As Christians, we want to spread joy and love to all. YET, we use, probably the most powerful tool weve ever been given (aside from the gospel itself, of course) to announce our own grievances to the world, instead of being light. Ive done it too, so Im not giving out any medicine, I myself dont also need to take, but I make a motion, that we use this amazing platform for good only. I want to see pics of your kids. Post your run - good for you. Show pics of your vacation and your evening at the blah-blah concert. Tell me about the sweet person who paid for your coffee. Encourage me to vote and attend the church or civic event you feel is important. But please stop complaining. Ill bare a bit of my soul here, and confess that Ive been struggling with some mild anxiety/depression for the last year or so, and I have truly had to turn away from Facebook a lot because I would go online to see what my friends were up to, looking for a pick me up, and instead had to turn it off because all the posts were dragging me further down. This thing can be a blessing or a curse on our culture, people! What are we going do with it? Okay. Im done. Have a nice day :)
