I remember when i was still a little boy whenever our family would go on a summer trip to the farm we would be staying at the farmhouse of tiya maria montilla at san jose where we would mix in with the kids of junior and johnny montilla or sometimes at the house of tia carmen martinez in bogo. Our yearly trips as far as i knew were to bogo and whenever we would talk about the farm it would usually be referred to as in bogo. The name medellin was foreign to me but as soon as i started managing the farm then thats when i realized medellin was a separate town and not just an adjunct in the sugar mills name. Anyway whenever i was asked from where i came from and in order not to invite more questions of where medellin was i would right away say bogo. When i joined politics i right away observed that the town was in a deep slumber without a chance of an early awakening. Night life was practically dead since as early as eight in the evening the streets would be so deserted and would only show signs of life during its fiesta.what was worse was that for recreation people would go to san remegio for a day in the beach or go to bogos wharf for drinking singing and dancing. I was almost of the opinion that probably this town was cursed and doomed to suffer the fate of the unknown and unheralded places in this earth. If one had friends or relatives come visiting it was difficult to think of a place in town to bring them to see and be amazed. But now thats only history and judging by the comments made by our townmates especially when they say they are proud of our town and have that pride of place it moves me to think that all our efforts were not in vain after all. To all of you who proudly proclaim i am from medellin a million thanks because that is the sweetest gift you can give us your municipal officials who despite the odds and the trials and obstacles we faced we still managed to show everyone that we could excel the medellin way.daghang salamat kaninyu tanan
