I remember when we hung around our wood stove in Chicana - it was the only source of heat, we used to dress (outer clothing) as close to the stove as possible, and dry socks on wire hangers next to the stove. Took our baths in tin tubs in the winter right next to the stove - Everyone sat at the kitchen table (near the stove) not just to eat but to chat, relax, do homework etc etc. Ours was not as beautiful as this one - it was black with little or no decoration, but it was both useful and beloved. My mother did not want replaced, but eventually she was convinced to do so. This happened after I left home in 1960. Peter Archibeque do u remember when it was replaced? Did others have a wood stove? Tortillas were cooked right on the lids...
