I respect all religions, and I have friends of all religions. I am a humble disciple of the great French philosopher Rousseau, who believed that men are basically good by nature ( unlike the English thinker Thomas Hobbes who believed that men are basically vicious by nature ). So I believe that 99% people of all religions, whether Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Buddhists, Jains, etc and of all castes, races, languages, regions, etc are good by nature, though sometimes misguided by wicked persons due to their simplicity or ignorance. Whenever they are misguided we must patiently explain to them the truth, and most of them will correct their views. But while I respect all religions, there are defects and social evils which I criticize, not with any bad intention, but with the intention that people correct themselves and remove these defects and social evils. Many of these defects and social evils may not have been defects and social evils at one time in the past, but with passage of time and changes in society they have become outdated and are today definitely defects and social evils. For example, I have strongly criticized the caste system among Hindus ( see my article on the caste system on my blog justicekatju.blogspot.in ) in which I have described it as a curse on the nation because in the modern age of equality it treats a section of society as inferior and divides us at a time when we must be united if we wish to progress. As the American Declaration of Independence said in the memorable words ringing through time We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness . Inequality in the modern age is simply unacceptable. Similarly, I have criticized the Muslim Personal Law ( see my article Abolish this unjust Muslim Personal Law ) because it discriminates against women and treats them as inferior. A husband can orally divorce his wife, but a wife cannot orally divorce her husband. This is just not acceptable in the modern age of equality in which men and women must be treated as equal. This, however does not mean that I am against Islam or Muslims. Many of my best friends are Muslims, and I respect Islam, just as I respect all religions. I have often been ferociously and viciously attacked for my views, but that has not affected me. I will keep saying what I believe to be true and in the interest of my country no matter what.
