I responded to a post on Donnie Douglas FB page last night. He said people dont always like hearing the truth. My response; What about the fact that Randys ads are meticulous, the right size good color, etc., but the Sheriffs ads in this past Sundays paper were barely noticeable except for all the mistakes made. The color in Sheriff Sealeys ads were horrible, words misspelled, names misspelled, and they were HALF the size they were suppose to be when the order was placed. Not to mention, there were quite a few people complaining today that their names were on Mr. Hammonds ad but that they had NOT authorized as an endorsement. I say all that to say this, I dont have specific examples of false info printed (other than last Sundays article on the drug seizures) but it is CRYSTAL CLEAR to anyone with an 8th grade education, anyone with COMMON sense, and anyone withOUT a comprehension problem, that the Robesonian is NOT a fan of Sheriff Sealeys. During election time, EVERY article has a negative connotation towards Sheriff Sealey and EVERY article written about his opponents have been favorable and positive. These articles are written to manipulate the citizens of this poor, uneducated county. ie. Hammonds looks to make history on the front page TRANSLATES to a lot of uneducated Robesonians as the paper is already saying Randy Hammonds is gone win. The Sunday before, Critics pin loss of drug funds on the Sheriff. The loss of funds were due to Tarnish Badge & have not been restored because of issues outside of the authority of the Sheriff BUT thats not how the article was written. Where were the statistics that showed Robeson County having the highest record of vehicular deaths during the time Randy Hammonds was first sergeant? If roles were reversed & Sheriff Sealey were the former 1st sergeant, the Robesonian would be implying the vehicular deaths were his fault & warn, If Sealey goes into office, travel roads at your own risk. Look Donnie, AFTER TEN YEARS, the Robesonian cant even spell Sealey correctly. And you want to criticize the Sheriff??? (This is where I posted a picture of an ad that read, Kenny Sealy) Not even five minutes after my post went up, Donnie deleted it and sent me an inbox defending himself. I thought about reposting but decided to sleep on it because I try not to post anything when Im angry. This morning I received an inbox from Donnie asking me to call him which I did. He answered, I told him who I was and he sounded glad to hear from me, as I heard him get up to close his door. I then began walking back and forth down here at the Marietta poll as he spoke loudly, (because he had me on speaker) and went down his list in front of him addressing all my issues. I tried to address each issue as he brought them up but he insisted to, please let him finish. He did tell me that he was talking to me because I seemed intelligent yet he repeated himself at least 5-10 times on each point, as if hoping if he said it enough, I might understand and he LOUDLY over talked me and would barely let me get a word in. So I walked back & forth and listened with an open mind, thinking, ok, well maybe Ive been misled, thinking because it was too difficult to try and speak over this very loud, fast talking fella. Those of you who know me, know Im always VERY willing to sit down and have a sensible conversation or even debate but Im not gonna get into a hollering contest. Anyway, he finally finished talking and I tried to make a few points but realized quickly my attempt would be futile so I just accepted the things he was saying that I believed and began to rethink my original post. BUT one thing Mr. Douglas CONTINUED to reenter-ate was that he was NOT against Sheriff Sealey & has still not decided who he was going to vote for. He said hed voted for the Sheriff in the last two elections and may vote for him in this election, he just couldnt decide at this point. Again, I believed him. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. (My husband wanted me to record the conversation to protect myself because he said the intent of the call was going to be for Donnies benefit and that he would probably be recording it himself but I did not. Instead I stood out here beside the road and tried to have a fair conversation). As I went to hang up the phone & i realized Donnie was still talking. I put the phone on speaker so my husband could hear and we heard Donnie talking with someone and he laughed while he said, yeah, I told her (with emphasis on told as if it were not true) I voted for Ken the last two elections and that I might still vote for him, then more laughter as he went on to say, I mightve voted for him three weeks ago and more laughter. I called Donnie back to tell him, I listened to all his points and listened open minded but Id like to know who was listening to our conversation. He immediately became defensive and said he his door was closed during the conversation and that no one heard my side of the conversation, only his because he spoke loudly. I pointed out to him that I knew I was on speaker so how was it that whoever was in his office did not hear me. He admitted that I was on speaker, became angry & said he was done & had to go. About five minutes into this post, my phone rang and it was Donnie. I could tell I was no longer on speaker and his tone was very different from before. He started by telling me no one heard our conversation and that he had gotten up, walked out his door (which I did not hear open a second time) and was talking with someone at his door, THEN decided to walk back over and hit the speaker button to hang up. I stopped him by speaking loudly for the first time and said, I DID LISTEN TO YOU WITH AN OPEN MIND. I DID BEGIN TO THINK I HAD MISJUDGED YOU, BUT YOU TOLD ME ONE THING AND THE PERSON WHO WAS LISTENING TO OUR CONVERSATION ANOTHER AS YOU LAUGHED ABOUT THE WHOLE CONVERSATION SO I NOW KNOW THAT YOU ARE A LIAR AND DOUBT THERE IS ANY TRUTH TO ANYTHING YOU SAID! And NOW, I am DONE, and I hung up. My husband says Im naive. Is that what giving people the benefit of the doubt has come to? Well, I can now say Donnie Douglas IS a liar because I heard it for myself.
