I sat with Sri Purna Widari last night for 3 hours. I have confirmed for myself that this is deeply powerful and beautiful young Balinese woman. She is a free spirit, and a mature soul who at this moment is feeling completely alone and afraid. I held back tears watching them swell up in her eyes and listening to her express the pain, anger, confusion and conflict, shes been dealing with for her entire life, but amplified due to recent activities. I could see this confusion, anger and rebellion in her posts. I could see her calls for clarity and direction. Many could not see see it and a witch hunt ensued. I empathized with her. I have been in that seat of loneliness where you feel like an alien amongst your own community and loved ones. Where you seek to radiate the beauty of your culture and at the same time can clearly see the ugliness that exists and you are unafraid to critique it. Where you have a sincere desire to change it, but have yet to acquire the wisdom needed to do it effectively. Ive been there. She knows that thus far, her expressions have been coming from a place of pain, anger and rebellion. She has removed herself from FB and is actively trying to find a space of peace, understanding and forgiveness so she can be effective in her efforts to help her culture to not only be preserved, but to evolve to even better ways of expressing and relating with others. My intention for posting this here is so that whomever reads this can hopefully be more discerning, open minded and compassionate when passing judgements. We do not know the full story of someones life. What circumstances have led them to the point of doing what they do or saying what they say. Seek clarity first. Some of the greatest leaders became that way by overcoming the ignorance of their own minds and actions. The purpose of a true community is to guide its members to be the best at who they are and not the best at what we think they should be. In the spirit of Peace, Understanding and Compassion
