I saw Into The Woods on Christmas and I loved it. Im sure purists - TopicsExpress

I saw Into The Woods on Christmas and I loved it. Im sure purists can pick it apart, but I felt it kept the spirit for the most part (I still think Rapunzel could have died since we didnt see her again. Pros: I loved the women. Meryl was wonderful (and Im not a shes always perfect fan - I didnt love her in Mama Mia). Last Midnight was spectacular for me, and visually engaging. I was obsessed with the structure in the shoulders of her gown. I really like Emily Blunts acting as the Bakers Wife and the singing was plenty fine. Anna Kendrick stole the movie for me. The Steps of the Palace was magnificent for me. I was also enamored with the range of subtle emotional moments she and Emily conveyed while getting through the difficult lyrics and melodies at breakneck speed. I like the Baker as well and Tracy Ullman as Jacks Mother. I liked Agony in the waterfall even if it wasnt sung with same comedic vocal effect achieved by big musical theatre male singers. The costumes were universally great for me. I loved the build of the opening number as well. Cons: It loses a little bit for me having Jack and Little Red be actual children. I liked him, I find her annoying - and not in the good way. The weird inside Grannys stomach was totally unnecessary and didnt fit the film. Depp was forgettable, but for the best since its not a number I love. Limitations of budget impacted some choices, but all in all, I had a great time. What did you think??
