I saw a black thing moving on our deck this evening, and on closer inspection discovered it was a big, long haired caterpillar!! It was all black, and similar to the wooly bear without the brown stripe. We looked it up and it was a Giant Leopard Moth caterpillar. It looked like a bristley brush, bigger than my thumb!! If its size is any indication of how cold the winter will be, we are doomed for a cold one!!!
