I saw a new patient Wednesday with pain so intense that she said - TopicsExpress

I saw a new patient Wednesday with pain so intense that she said shed been sleeping little more than an hour a night for several days prior. I examined her, took X-rays and performed manipulation, therapeutic modalities and some soft tissue work. She came back yesterday and had her back to me when I walked into the treatment room. As soon as she faced me I could tell something was different. Her eyes were bright and wide open (not squinting with her brow furrowed like the day before) and she was smiling. The first thing she said was, I feel wonderful...I slept right through!! Needless to say, I was thrilled that shed had a good nights sleep! I said,Thats terrific; so you slept a full eight hours?! She said, No...I slept 24 hours...straight through and I feel wonderful!! It was obvious that whatever Id done managed to provide just what her body needed and just in time. This was yet another story to add to the many Ive experienced (over the last nearly quarter of a CENTURY!!) where I somehow find myself as a certain patients caregiver at the perfect time to give them just what they needed at that time. I often refer to that as synchronicity. I seem to have reached a strange point in my life where Im struggling, if not downright failing, at simply existing in many of the roles Ive held. Ive always viewed my role as a physician to be almost as equally an art or talent with which Ive been blessed as it is the science that Ive been taught and learned over the years. Im truly grateful that, despite the fact Im either not needed or wanted in some of the other roles that have contributed at defining myself over the years, my roles as healer, educator, physician and sometimes even mentor continue to find a way to make me feel useful, contributing and connected.
