I saw the movie NOAH today on the huge Ultra Screen. It had some awesome imagery and very clever cinematography. The message of animals being innocent was prevalent, as was the wickedness of man – both of which are biblical principles. Also present was the concept of The Creator putting us in charge of taking care and respecting his creation - including the animals. As a Christian, I did not find it offensive in the least - quite the opposite, even though some liberties were taken with the story. It’s a movie, not a theology course. The creation of the world was respectfully shown in a really cool way. The sinful attitude of man dominating animals was also shown. If Christians are offended and up in arms about this film, I would tell them to maybe loosen their neckties a little... the bible DOES tell us God destroyed the earth with a flood because man was so wicked – and that’s what the film shows. I think many Christians are offended by the strong “animal welfare” or dare I say “vegan” message of the film – which is exactly why I started The Tourniquet Ark. Genesis 6: 9-21 (part) Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress[c] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.” If you love animals and believe there are those who choose to help them and those who choose to hurt them, you may want to check it out - whether you are a self-professed atheist like NOAH producer Darren Aronofsky or Christian. Huge props to Aronofsky for choosing not to use and exploit live animals in the film, opting instead for CGI. There were a few scenes that really got to me – like the multitude of birds circling the ark before entering, the anger of Noah upon seeing an animal die from being hunted for food (let’s not forget that God’s original perfect plan did not include us killing and eating animals) and the dove returning to the ark with an olive branch. I kept thinking during the movie – this is how I see animals, and this is how God sees his creation – innocent and worthy of our protection. Genesis 8:1 “But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded” - Ted Kirkpatrick
