I saw this trailer for THE BABADOOK before THE GUEST, and I was very impressed. The film has been on my radar for a while now, but the trailer has only heightened my anticipation. I respect that its horror marketing done right: they really crank up the atmosphere and convey a sense of dread and growing hysteria that seems to be present in the film, but save for the odd fleeting glimpse they seem to be holding back on actually showing any of their big scary set-pieces. That for me is something that really annoys me about horror film trailers, where they put the biggest scares in the trailer and so your experience of watching the film just becomes a case of waiting for those beats to hit. But the makers of THE BABADOOK seem to recognise that theres not much scarier than the unknown.
