I see Dominica being promoted as the as the nature isle of the world, in a strategic position to push towards the green economy initiative!! This is an industry which will explode in the next 10 to 15 years, and we should begin the transformation of our economy now! The geothermal project is one of a particular nature, one can see the benefits if they simply do some research. However, the current explorations taking place in Dominica need to be reviewed namely, the location, tangible, factual and transparent research, the right technologies and the proper market. I do not see this project coming on stream any time soon, this may well take another 10 years before we can properly harness this renewable energy. That time frame is ok, once we do it properly and effectively and take all the necessary steps to ensure that the cons are well accounted for and planned for in the overall strategy. There are other technologies which can be ventured into which has a much shorter timespan regarding implementation and use in our daily lives. Solar energy, water management techniques, bio fuels, recycling and reusing. Dominica is beginning to experience some serious waste management issues and truly believe that recycling and reusing specific waste elements can bring a viable industry and economic benefits to the country, and also the biodegradable wastes through composting techniques can be reused as well in another form bio fuel, bio gas. These are all eco-friendly and also economically inclined if harnessed properly. Dominica is the land of sun, solar energy initiatives would cut power cost by at least 30% for the entire populace, whether its through solar farms placed at strategic points and connected to the electric grid, or allowing people to use the technology by direct connections to their homes or businesses and use them at certain strategic periods in the month, week etc. If we are looking at cutting cost in the economy, while being able to produce and generate revenue, increase the flow of cash, going green is one the quickest ways to turn this over. Which is why this is one of the ideas and projects that PCD and myself will be embarking on in SOUTH CITY INITIATIVE. The first of this is a project geared towards recycling and reusing, palettes, tyres, plastic spoons, forks etc. Into creative and economically viable products. The target is youth within the age range 18 - 35, reason for this being they are of legal age to form part of the countries labour force, and this is where the highest levels of unemployment lies. We are aiming to make this a viable industry in the community and also unique to SOUTHCITY!! What do you all tihink?
