I sent this email to the CEO of the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital today: To the CEO of the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital Further to the help afforded to me by Mr Jack Bloom of the #DA when I had a bad experience at the OR Tambo Hospital, an appointment was made for me at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital, I attended the eye clinic and went through the tests and procedures at the eye clinic, an op was scheduled for the 27th May, I attended the hospital on that day but it was found that my blood sugar was too high and they were unable to do the op. I had to attend diabetic clinic and get my blood sugar under control. I eventually did get it under control and various situations not relevant to this i got hep to get back to getting the appointment for the op rescheduled. On the 1st September I was able to go back to the hospital to rebook the op. I saw the person who does the booking a very nice Muslim lady who said that the op could only be done in February 2015. I expressed dismay that such a long delay after all Id been through trying to get this op done, she asked me to wait and and went out of the room, she came back and said if my blood sugar and blood pressure was good they could operate the next day if I was agreeable. I accepted and contact the person who helps me with a lift and she agreed to bring me back the next day. the op was successfully completed. and yesterday I went back for a checkup and all is well. I discussed the other eye and the Dr. said Id have to wait 3 months then they will begin the process of doing the other eye. Why Im writing to you:: To express my gratitude to the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital for their total professionalism, the friendliness of the staff, the helpfulness of the staff, and the wonderful gift that I now have sight in my right eye and see a wonderful new world. I cannot praise the eye unit enough from the receptionist, the doctors, the nursing staff, the theater staff, everyone did their bit to make this whole experience as pleasant as possible for me, the sisters in the ward were exceptional. The whole unit is run like a well oiled machine, the staff work hard and were at all times helpful and pleasant to me, working with my deafness and arthritic condition. Even the food was a vast difference from the food received at the OR Tambo (Hope they have improved that after my complaint). Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Kind regards Cynthia Taylor
