I shall be teaching a 2 day Encaustic Wax Art Workshop at Nature in Art in Gloucester, UK on Tuesday 21st October and Wednesday 22nd October 2014. Places are limited to just 10 people. Please see nature-in-art.org.uk for details on how to book or PM me if you have any questions. Discover the fascinating medium of Encaustic Wax Art – no artistic experience necessary! Encaustic Art dates back at least 2000 years and was used by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. Nowadays we use pigmented, non-toxic beeswax and a small electric iron to create gorgeous, vibrant pictures in no time at all. On Day 1 Elaine will teach you the basic steps and how to create stunning abstract designs, mesmerising rhythmic patterns, simple landscapes and beautiful fantasy pictures. By the end of the day you will have completed several small paintings that can be used in cards or mounted and made into pictures. On Day 2 of the workshop we shall build on the methods from the previous day and explore more ways to work with wax and improve on techniques. We will learn how to add water effects and will also make use of rubber stamps to easily add details to your images. As well as using the iron to create abstract, landscape and fantasy images, we will be using the stylus tool, a heated pen that allows finer detail to be added and we can try out further fabulous effects using a small hotplate. We shall experiment with using wax on different surfaces and will also be printing wax paintings onto fabric. This is a fun workshop also known as “Extreme Ironing” in which to play and allow your imagination to soar! You will take lots of small paintings home with you at the end of the course ready to mount and frame and amaze your friends and family. Elaine’s website is ArtbyElaine.co.uk. Please visit nature-in-art.org.uk for more details or contact me on PM.
