I shared recently that I was up to big stuff and would share the details soon. Well, this is it, or the beginning of it. It’s big news, to me! Since Stripy Arms is about stretching yourself, I look for ways to do that every day. (Sharing this news with you is a stretch!) While researching licensing opportunities and reading about what it takes to really get your work out there, I came across a contest, a Global Talent Search, sponsored by Lilla Rogers, an artist’s agent. The contest is a really big deal. At first, I didn’t know if it was for me. After looking at the art submitted by participants in last year’s contest, it seemed to be mostly illustrators and digital artists. I am not either of those. I decided to register anyway. I figured it was a great opportunity to challenge myself, be vulnerable, step outside the box, be uncomfortable, be willing to be seen, and surrender to the process. Maybe they’re looking for something different, and I’m different! The contest started yesterday. There are thousands entered. Our first challenge is to create a piece of wall art with a theme of ‘terrariums’. Terrariums? When I saw that in the brief (detailed challenge write up), I freaked out for a second, and then my creative juices began to stir. The deadline for our first challenge is August 18th, so stay tuned. The first cut will take the playing field from thousands to 50. Send your good juju my way! And thanks for your support. It’s how I got here!
