I should have come home from rehearsal and done a few loads of laundry, but instead I just spent an hour flashing my truck lights at fireflies. It works best when the moon is dark or nearly dark as it is tonight, just a few days shy of a new moon, and you need to be away from light pollution. And most of all, you need to be patient. Because fireflies dont fall for just any pretty truck that flashes them. No, they want to take their time, get to know you, think about things for awhile. But then, THEN! Then, if youre lucky, if youve been patient, if theyre in the right mood, if you havent flashed your lights too frequently, then, oh my God then, then you flash your headlights one more time and suddenly they all flash back a hundred of them two hundred three hundred maybe, just a few times and then the rhythms off and its over, and you think wow, I may not have clean socks tomorrow but I just talked to fireflies.
