I spent part of the afternoon setting a new scope on a .22 rifle. - TopicsExpress

I spent part of the afternoon setting a new scope on a .22 rifle. I had never done it before and daddy did help me. Its not the most fancy scope, only a fixed 4x32 power. By the time we got finished setting it I was putting holes in the red dot on the target that were almost touching. Literally it was shooting less than a 1 inch group. Thats good. Now I can shoot the ears off a mosquito at 50 yards. Thats how its supposed to be. If it didnt cost so much to invest in the gun scope, bipod, etc, I would get a high power rifle and start doing some long range practice sessions., but I do not have the income to invest a couple thousand dollars in a decent rifle and scope to do that, so ill stick with the good old .22 rifle. Someday I really would like to enter some of the 1000 yard shot competitions. It would be a real challenge and an nice accomplishment to boot. Handgun competitions would be hard enough, but the real challenge would be that 1000 yard target. I wouldnt mind getting into some skeet shooting as well, but I would need lots of practice. I never have been much good at hitting a moving target. A moving target such as a bird or squirrel is certainly in no danger from me. I have known people that could hit a squirrel running with a .22 rifle and know one guy that could even do it with his 9mm carbine. Not me. I couldnt even hit a moving elephant with a machine gun. I guess thats why they call it target practice.
