I started a test cage for hognose today, I have been messing with them for 23 months. And finally came up with an approach. I went retro. I combined both rack and naturalistic. This test cage is 36 wide, 30 high, and 24 deep. The tub drawers are 22 by 12 by 7 deep. Standard bus tubs. The cage will allow for 3 or 4 of substrate in the top, Soil from where they come from. And the tubes that allow them to go down will be able to be closed, if needed. I hope one tub will work for nesting is totally filled with the stuff then nest in, in nature, I collected 300pds of it, hahahahahahahaha I have to go by WOOD, as the drawer structure will be wood(easy) . I also plan on testing an in cage heating and cooling system. I am going to rip off the mechanics off one of these things, Wagan 2577 7 Liter Cooler/Warmer, 12 volt heating and cooling, just flip a switch. It will work, the question is, for how long. My feeling about hogs so far is, they use heat, with small areas of cooling, as opposed to most snakes that use cool with a small area of heating. We will see. So tomorrow I have to go find more hogs, cause I am nuts.
