I stayed up late and walked the beach seeking to see one of these sea turtles that all of the beach regulations are about. I ended up running into some state biologist sitting with a turtle laying eggs. I have to say it was pretty neat. My phone was too dead to take pictures and it was miles back to the room. I sat with the turtle for hours it seemed like while it laid near a hundred eggs. She was nearly as big as a go cart and looked like she had barnacles growing from her shell. You could touch her and she didnt even act like you were there. Her head was big enough that I believe she could have bitten my arm off. She laid her eggs and worked very hard to bury them slamming her shell down every so often to pack the sand then she was off. It was a very neat experience and I have a new respect for what these animals go through to reproduce. The eggs have less than a 5% survival rate and I wouldnt have a clue how old the turtle I was with was but she had to be very old to be that big.
