I still believe that Fredrick Dougras was right when he said Where all is plain theres nothing to be argued. Now we need not to hear from the arguments by an economic expert that when the supply of import cover is less the demand thereof the result becomes suffocation of the economy. This is plain! My elementary reading of economics reminds me that Economics subject matter is ECONOMIZING & MAXIMIZATION. Adam Smith makes it clear that most likely our limited resource base will forever wage war with our unlimited wants. The only way to bring about a ceasefire situation is by allocate scarce resources towards initiatives that will increase our profit margin. Our leaders know more about this but we can speculate their conscience is somewhat bankrupt! The recurrent feature of Malawis political leadership is one where development promises wrapped in nice rhetoric is glorified over need to produce more of quality products for crossbourder trade. This has gone a long way in formulating budgets that are not as pro-poor as they wanna impress on us but political capital budgets. This is where money is allocated towards trivialities with an aim of cheating a peasant inorder to buy his future vote. Am yet to be conginced that Malawis economy will be revamped by the so-called Iron sheet subsidy programme. The community college programme may not be a whole evil but I have no faith that itll succeed at this stage of our history. To me this is waste! Dont u wonder that pay hike normally doesnt coincide with growth? Dont u wonder that executive luxuries often fail to dovetail with the prevailing economic realities? Dont u wonder that debts are solicited for domestic consumption as opposed to production & in the end we fail to service them? Painful as this really feels we shouldnt nevertheless turn a blind eye to the age-old fact that development isnt our previlege but in essence our right! I agree with Malcolm X Whenever u are going for something which belongs to you, anyone depriving you of the right to have it is a criminal! With the current acute shortage of forex,I have the impression that our economy is returning onto her death-bed. Strange enough very few people seem to take interest in what is unfolding. It is because the words of Thomas Paine down in antiquity rings on A long habit that something is not wrong gives it the superficial appearance of being right! But Dr. King also rings on We refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt! And Abraham Lincoln gets it to the bottom This nation can not survive half slave & half free! I invite you to the Fatsanian dream where good politics is considered a means to good economics.
