I still remember the moment, 57 years ago, when my dad said, with disappointment, maybe disgust, but certainly disapproval, You throw like a girl and wondering why he would say it because, well, yeah, thats because I ~am~ a girl. You keep wanting me to be more ladylike, so how has this become an insult? He could have said, Your throwing technique could be improved and showed me a better way. There might be something physical involved, because a post-pubescent girls carrying angle is different, but that doesnt forgive insulting ones female friends and relatives. It also doesnt make it OK to turn gender into an insult. Ill forgive my dad, because the patriarchy was pretty solid in the 50s, but surely in this, the 21st Century, weve evolved. Um, wait, no. SCotUS, today, pretty much said we havent. That decision is about control of womens bodies. The old dudes are still trying to hold on.
