I stopped to get gas this morning, and to get Emma some juice. As we walked into the store, above all else, I could hear a man talking very loud and harsh. I couldnt help but overhear him say to the cashier Now I will be ten minutes late to my board meeting all because of your stupidity. Two dollars may not mean much to you, but I paid good money for my education, and I work hard. Now give me my two dollars you shorted me, and enjoy your dead end job! As Emma and I approached her, I had no idea what to say! I felt bad for her, and wondered why two dollars meant more this educated and business savvy man, than being on time to his high paying job, or meeting. The young girl wiped her face quickly, as if trying to hide her tears. As I began to tell her not to worry... Emma interrupted with Lana, why her crying? Is her sad? I didnt know what to say!! I just told Emma that the man was really rude, and hurt her feelings. The young girl smiled at Emma, then looked my way and said I am sorry. That was my fault. I must have miscounted his change. I told her it was fine. She went on to tell me how hard life has been for her. That her son is 9 weeks old, and had a birth defect that has required 4 surgeries, and he hasnt been home since birth. She then looked at Emma and told us to have a nice day. Along with I hope my son is as sweet as you are when he gets big. We left her smiling. ~ I suppose my point is, we never really know what someone is going thru. And to assume this young girl is stupid, well its shallow. And to condemn her for her choice of employer, thats worse! At least she is working. And I cant imagine how she does it with her little guy away from her. There was a similar situation in my family, with one of our little ones. And I couldnt imagine someone treating her mom that way. No one knows the pain of this until you have been there. Go easy on people, people. Never think your burdens are heavier than the next person. Ive stepped in puddles of mud deeper than that man. And the young girl handled him with such grace, amidst her hiding pain...
