I talked my way into one of Patagonia’s new $300 hoodies for review! Why, you ask yourself, would anyone pay $300 for a hoody or $250 for the hood-free version? Because it brings together a fancy ripstop nylon facing comparable to PERTEX with an even fancier synthetic insulation similar to PrimaLoft, but breathable, quicker drying, and with two-way stretch. It hasn’t been cold enough for me to trial the breathability and drying time claims, but it really *does* stretch, which feels kinda crazy. If none of the above piques your fancy, this would just end up being a $300 windbreaker for you. But if it lives up to the marketing claims, it probably is actually worth the MSRP if you or someone you love does any of the following during the winter: forestry work, rock climbing, hiking in the mountains, snowshoeing, or backcountry skiing. If it looks promising to you but you’re reticent about becoming an early adopter at that price, stay tuned. InshaAllah, I will be chiming in with my firsthand experiences sometime in late December or early January.
