I taught an amazing lesson yesterday! It wasnt the Hokey Pokey song but perhaps *just as meaningful! I started one of my students on a Mozart journey. Shes a freshman in Highschool now and has been studying with me since she was 6 years old!? This was a really special lesson for us... because one of my sayings is I want to take my students from learning Middle C to Mozart! and in this case the Mozart piano Concerto in D Minor No. 20 K.466. She also studies the flute, so I believe she will really enjoy the flute parts in this concerto as well. I like teaching this piece for many reasons. The first is, it is a great first concerto piece because it is so nicely broken into segments that can be studied as their own individual exercises. Another is, the orchestra part is SO MUCH FUN TO PLAY with my students :D (when you dont have an orchestra ready to accompany you in your living room/studio the next best thing is a second pianist) I have a dream to see her perform on stage with the orchestra-- When I mentioned that she could participate in a concerto competition and possibly win the competition and perform with an orchestra, I saw a light in her eyes I have never seen before-- the same light that was once lit by my teacher many years ago. And *that... is what its all about. 🍑
