I think Bob and The Wailers universal appeal was in the diverse content with which they expressed their talent. The were fearless in communicating their political and Rastafarian critiques of the babylon establishment and yet they were equally adept at celebrating life, positivity heritage and relationships.They were dynamic and real. They were street and hip yet spiritual and political. They were honest, they were fun. They didnt have to fit in a box only expressing one aspect of their experiences to appease audiences. They served whole balanced meals of music not a microwave mono-diet of monotony. Yet they werent accused of dumbing it down when they did a dancehall riddim to grind to like Kinky reggae And they werent blackballed when they sung about self defense and police brutality on I shot the Sheriff. This is what Ive always aspired for as an artist. The freedom to communicate Life, in full. I continue to take inspiration from groups like Bob and the Wailers as i develop my craft. #songsoffreedom
