I think I finally understand Pauls statement below. We tend to - TopicsExpress

I think I finally understand Pauls statement below. We tend to wrongly equate eloquence with spirituality. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom , but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power : That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men , but in the power of God . 1 Corinthians 2:4-5. Today, unbelief is extremely articulate and persuasive. Doubt has never been so eloquently expressed by shoulder-shrugging agnostics and finger-wagging atheists, so thoroughly supported by surface appearances, so abundantly corroborated by cold reason and clinical science, and so entirely embraced by popular opinion. The first people to get socially stoned today in this postmodern world are not those who deny God ever speaks, but those who dare claim he ever does. So, what did Paul mean here in Corinthians? What one man can talk you into, another man can talk you out of. But, what God convinces you of, then nothing in Heaven or earth can convince you otherwise. Paul allowed the power of God to displace and replace His eloquence. And He found certainty. I wonder if we are willing to do the same.
