I think I first heard this as a very naive 18 year old at MSU. Credit to whoever put the images to the music. This predates rap by at least ten years, if you consider Run DMC progenitors of rap. Raps not my thing but I, like everyone, was slightly electrified by this when I first heard it in the dorm and as filler waiting for concerts to begin. Then it was Jazz Fusion with highly skilled instrumentalists and musicians but fewer poet/writer/ vocalists like this. The groove is so tight, and Gil so forceful and the lyrics.. well, they were of the times and still relevant. I love the flute and the rhythm section, and Gil and his delivery. I miss those times and their promise and expectations. Thanks to one of my heroes Johnny Echols for posting.
