I think Im a pretty empathetic, new-age kind of male-type person, tolerant and accepting of people whose ideas arent as sophisticated as mine. I rarely rant on FB about conservatives and their ideas. I try to understand why they seem dedicated to the economic destruction of our country (tis of thee, whatever that means.) I try to understand why they are motivated more by fear than compassion as their God commands, why they cry out with outrage over government programs for the poor and working class but remain silent in the face of decades-old tax policies that have transferred trillions from the poor and middle class to the wealthy, and why they are content to see corporations destroy our political system with their obscene wealth while setting up phony off-shore subsidiaries to avoid paying taxes on billions of dollars of profit. Yes, I try to understand all this because of my empathy and new-age-ness. But I cant. Theyre not all stupid. But they do all seem to be driven more by fear than anything else. I can understand that to some extent. Im afraid of cobras which is why I avoid India. But I wouldnt advocate killing all the cobras...unless they immigrate illegally to the U.S. And thats the truth.
